Research Achievement
On September 17, 2025, the team published its research in Nature, presenting NeuroWorm — a neural fiber electrode as fine as a human hair, soft and stretchable, and freely drivable.
This research on NeuroWorm, a bioinspired worm-like dynamic electrode, is the first to propose the "dynamic electrode" paradigm for brain-computer interfaces, breaking the "static" tradition of implantable electrodes and opening a new direction for the research and application of brain-computer interface electrodes.
Paper Information
The research was published in Nature, 2025, under the title: A movable long-term implantable soft microfibre for dynamic bioelectronics.
Technical Highlights
NeuroWorm is as fine as a human hair, with electrode sites of only 5 μm — soft and stretchable, with low implantation-related tissue trauma and low risk. It is freely drivable, solving the electrode displacement and repositioning problems of conventional electrodes. Its theoretical lifespan exceeds 10 years, with 1.5 years of verified long-term stability, addressing signal degradation in chronic implants. The gold electrodes offer top biocompatibility, and the SEBS insulation keeps tissue damage and immune-response risks low.
